NASA to the Rescue!

NASA is providing the Ikhana Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in support of the California fires. Ikhana is a Predator B modified to perform multiple civil research roles and capable of collecting data for up to 30 hours. The Ikhana aircraft position as well as all the geo- and terrain-registered data from the AMS-Wildfire instrument can be observed using the CDE linkages. On July 8, 2008 the Ikhana flew on a 10-hour mission over the most active California wildfires to collect data in both northern and southern California.

Home sweet Phobos

NASA released an amazing image of Phobos taken by the MRO. For some reason or other, the first thing I thought of when I saw this was Doom. Interestingly enough, the real Phobos doesn’t have strong enough gravity for the types of activities depicted in the game. What are your favorite games that take place in space? YES! Finally a place for us all to store the useless knowledge we’ve accumulated over the many years of working next to the rocket scientist, program manager or even the lovely blonde receptionist. This is the “did you know” section where you can tell us anything from famous space anniversaries to how a gravity assist maneuver works. We’re neither historians nor propulsion engineers so we leave this precious space in your hands.
